Since that time a very gracious rescue has come forward on Otis's behalf and has offered him a safe and loving place to learn to trust and love again. Contrary to Ordinary is not a physical rescue per say but we do our best to help these black pearls that are falling through the cracks. Our success lies within the strong ties of the rescue network."Happily Ever After"has agreed to provide the physical home for Otis while we continue to make his plight known for those who want to give and help find his new leash in life. HEA in Green Bay, WI states that "Otis is doing well and in 4 short days is now starting to come out of his crate to greet his foster mom when she enters the room." It is our desire that Otis will make steady and positive progress forward to find his forever person and family through the calm and kind care he is receiving in his transitional home. His guardian angel is excited for him as he is very likable and tenderly loving those who have shown kindness to him. Otis is a mystery date: we are not sure what exactly happened to him: was he dumped from a moving vehicle in the country, did he wander off and then was bumped by a car, did he finally escape someone who had been rough handling him or abusing him??? It is a mystery but that is ok. What is important is that true to his canine nature he is forgiving and moving forward and really wants to live his life in the hands of those who know only kindness, gentleness and self-control and mostly to love and see him from their hearts.
HOW TO HELP OTIS FIND HIS NEW PEOPLE:
It does take a village to give a rescued dog a new start in life:
1) As mentioned above Otis needed someone to love, care and speak out for him when others deemed him "target practice", lost and unwanted. His farm family met that need.
2) Otis needed someone to connect on his behalf to find a safeplace. Contrary to Ordinary met his need there.
3) Otis needed a safeplace to unpack some baggage and open his heart in a safe environment while being fed good food with a warm bed of his own. Happily Ever After is doing this.
4) Otis needed free and safe transportation to get to Happily Ever After from Contrary to Ordinary. Volunteers with Contrary to Ordinary and Happily Ever After helped him here.
5) Otis's current needs are as follows and where you can support him with your gifts:
~ A new crate ~ Need met/see below
~ A new pad for his crate so it is soft to sleep on and rest in ~ Need met/see left hand side: top
~ His vet bill to be paid so he can be healthy, up-to-date with shots, microchipped and neutered before placed with his new family~ Make checks payable to: Animal Hospital of Ashwaubenon and mail to 1367 Glen Rd, Green Bay, WI 54313, in the memo line write: HEA/OTIS. OR call with credit card payment to the Hospital direct at 920-499-0805. Tell them you would like to make a donation to Happily Ever After OTIS dog. No gift too big or too small. SPECIAL NOTE: Otis was adopted into a family at the end of February and an adoption donation was made on his behalf. The items below is what is still left, outstanding bill presented to the rescue who bridged Otis's way into his great new life. If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Each animal bill that is covered will allow for another animal in-need to slide into the safety arms of this rescue.

So if you are reading this and saying to yourself: "I can live without ordering pizza tonight" and instead wish to donate on Otis's behalf then Otis would like to put "your pizza out here" by the pie or the slice as a thank you. His tail wags are starting to find their way back and soon all we will hear when we round the bend to Otis's new crate is thump, thump, thump (thank you-thank you-thank you). To order a pizza simply donate an item of need above to Otis. A picture of a pizza pie would be a donated gift of $20 and by the slice is a donated gift of $2.50. There are 8 slices to a pie. This is a wonderful opportunity if you have children to get your kids involved in rescue. Help them earn money by doing chores for Otis to "purchase pizza" (in a manner of speaking) for the items listed above. Help them package and mail these gift to Otis. It helps build a sense of community and foster compassion and a willingness to help even in a small way. Pride yourselves in teaching responsible pet guardianship by serving as a model to your children and the community. For adults it is way to "cut back the fat and calories" and help a needy black pearl dog feel full in life & to experience a feel-good moment.

I will do my best to post your act of kindness andthank you pizza as soon as possible.

In honor of Sybil an extraordinary dog, thank you Cindy!!!!
Many of you have met Otis out on Petfinder and know his beginnings with us. As a refresher: This is the letter Contrary to Ordinary received on January 9th 2006 from his farm hospice family:
"WE HAVE A BLACK LAB DOG THAT HAS MADE OUR HOME HIS HOME FOR ALMOST A MONTH NOW. HE IS A YOUNG DOG THAT IS NOT NEUTERED AND IS NOT VERY FRIENDLY. WE HAVE GONE AROUND TO OUR NEIGHBORS HOUSES AND NO ONE CLAIMS HIM. I EXPECT THAT HE WAS ABUSED. HE GROWLED AT US AT FIRST. NOW WHEN WE TALK TO HIM, HE WALKS THE OTHER WAY. WE HAVE PUT A LEASH ON HIM AND BROUGHT HIM INTO OUR BREEZEWAY. HE APPEARS TO BE QUITE YOUNG WITH CLEAN WHITE SHARP TEETH, BUT SOOOOO SAD. CONSEQUENTIALLY ENOUGH, I LIVE BETWEEN XXXXXX AND XXXXXX. I CALLED THE TOWN CHAIR, HE SAID HE WOULD COME PICK HIM UP, THEN CALLED BACK AND ASKED IF WE COULD BRING HIM TO (xxxxxx xxxxxx), THAT IF HE HAD TO COME UP HERE, HE WOULD JUST SHOOT HIM. I ALREADY HAVE FIVE DOGS AND DON’T WANT ANOTHER. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU WOULD TAKE HIM. I WOULD CONSIDER FOSTERING HIM TIL A HOME COULD BE FOUND, BUT HE NEEDS SHOTS AND TO BE NEUTERED. WE JUST FEEL SO BAD FOR HIM! PLEASE WRITE BACK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
~We want to thank this family above as they took the high road and did some extra leg work to search and find a positive solution for Otis. Not only did they "take time" but also offered him shelter, food and love while it all came together. So often people not in the daily grind of rescue think it should be as quick as ordering a fast food meal in the drive-thru line: 'I have this dog, come and get him because I can't keep him' or in other words 'I want a number 4 here' (a quick pick up). I wish it was this way. Sometimes it is but most dogs (99%) need time and some volunteer dollars to get them into a safeplace. So, thank you family above. You are wonderful. May you be rewarded in life for your caring and diligent ways.~
