"Contrary to Ordinary"
The Black Pearls of the Dog World
~Making a difference: one black dog at a time through education, awareness and action~
Often we are asked "how do you get Jake to look so shiny and act so healthy?" Essentially the answer is: "4 equal things":

** unconditional love and commitment
** clean water, ready accessible
** plenty of exercise for his body and his mind
** quality health care in the form of vet care and superior nutrition

Springtime Inc has helped us considerably with providing superior nutrition.  We are aware there is a lot of "chatting" about what is best to feed dogs: is it raw diet? a homemade cooked diet? a canned food program? Many even ask "can we feed dry kibble from a bag and still have a long-lived healthy dog in our house"?   We won't attempt to answer that for you or your dogs as there are many out there who have information gathered for review on this subject. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make as to what is best for your household. We will encourage each of you to do your own research based on your circumstances. Note: launch pad sites included above in highlighted titles. We will say this however, whatever decision you make about the food you choose to serve to your canine friend, Springtimes' food concentrates, herbal extracts and super nutrients offer an array of avenues to complete the bowl you are offering to the very special dog in your life.

Jakes Story: Like many rescued animals Jake had received good care in his rescue. Yet, facts remain. Rescues and shelters run on skeletal budgets and seek to provide care for numbers of dogs and animals. Many (not all) animals come in having high needs to be addressed due to their prior neglect, abuse or abandonment.  These wonderfully caring groups do their utmost to provide the necessary vet attention for the animals immediate needs while providing sustainable nutrition.  It is the future adopter that plays the largest role when it comes to the "next level of care" for these dogs.  The kind of care that can be given in a private setting through a more focused/padded budget and the ability to attend to the smallest details. If this wasn't true, shelters and rescues would rarely become filled. They become saturated, in part, due to lack of funds and time to meet the needs of those given to them. They have to draw a line.  They do however provide an absolutely necessary link in getting each animal physically and emotionally ready to find their new person(s) and without these rescue minded people many many animals would experience a pain-filled, hunger-filled life with no hope or desperate filled deaths.  For so many of them this rescue setting is the first experience (of many to come) in a world where they are lovingly taken care of through patient attention, medical care and good nutrition.

Upon Jakes adoption he did appear to be very healthy and our vet thought he looked really good at his first office visit.  Yet, it was noted that Jakes coat looked like it had a highlight of chocolate or red to it (a "sunburned" or faded look) with a course feel which we chalked up to the Labrador heritage. His skin was a bit dry as were his nails, but we knew that these could be remedied with a "step up" in what was placed his food bowl.  Six months into his "padded care" he began to show a stunning blue-black coat that was shiny and soft.  We have not experienced a single ear infection since his arrival despite his flopped over ears and his love of being in the water. He has shown a healthy intestinal track and strong nails (his first week here he cracked one clear to the quick from top to bottom, his nails had been thin, weak and peeling. Quite painful and required pain medications). His skin is allergy and "smell" free and his face has those bright, clean eyes.  He is full of vibrant energy, is strong and able to work hard at all that he does with great flexibility.  He is just a portrait of really good health, from the inside - out! Why?

We believe one major key to Jakes radiance is this: Jake eats Springtimes' Joint Health, Chewable Garlic Tabs and Bee Pollen (click on their highlighted titles to find out their key components and how they contribute to Jakes health) with every meal put before him.  We know without a doubt that rescued animals greatly benefit from attentive care. We are proud to be a reseller of those items mentioned above and other Springtime products. We have used these and other ST products for nearly a decade and even when others have offered us other companies' jars, we keep coming back to what has worked continually well in our household: for both the rescued and our own adopted four legged family.

"Many rescue animals (dogs and horses) have benefited from these products while being in our family or until they are placed in their forever homes.  For so many of them this is the first time they are receiving optimum nutritional care and love.  One of the beautiful things (among so many) about rescue is this, you get to see the transformation these wonderful creatures go through: undernourished to nourished, scared to calm, fear to trust, injured to healing. Springtime products have helped them every step of the way giving them an unsurpassed avenue to achieve these wonderful changes." Tamara
